The field of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery deals with the surgery of organs in the thorax, including the heart and lungs and blood vessels of the body. A team of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons treat diseases such as for coronary artery disease (blockage of the blood vessels of the heart), lung cancer, esophageal cancer and peripheral arterial disease.
