General & Laparoscopic Surgery
The Department of General & Laparoscopic Surgery at Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital (JBFH) is highly regarded as a pioneer of minimal access surgery in Bangladesh.
A Legacy of Innovation, the hospital has a deep historical connection to laparoscopic care. It was co-founded in 1994 by Prof. Dr. Sarder A. Nayeem, who is widely celebrated as the pioneer of laparoscopic surgery in Bangladesh. Dr. Nayeem, who serves as the Chief Laparoscopic Surgeon and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, performed the country's very first laparoscopic operation back in December 1990 after completing specialized training in Tokyo.
The department is staffed by an accomplished team of consultants, including key specialists who specializes in General, Laparoscopic, Hepatobiliary, and Pancreatic surgery. The surgical team treats a broad array of medical conditions, offering complex surgical interventions for:
- Gallstones and biliary disease
- Appendicitis and hernias
- Stomach ulcers, colonic polyps, and gastrointestinal cancers
- Advanced gynecological and urological laparoscopy
Along with Cutting-Edge Facilities, JBFH features modern operating theaters specifically optimized for Minimal Access Surgery (MAS). The hospital's structural setup facilitates comprehensive patient oversight through:
- Advanced diagnostic imaging and pre-operative evaluation tools
- A fully integrated, 24-hour Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) equipped with advanced ventilators and cardiac monitors for high-risk recoveries
- Specialized focus on minimized post-operative downtime
By employing modern minimal-incision methodologies, the department focuses heavily on reducing patient pain, minimizing scarring, shortening hospital stays, and maximizing overall clinical outcomes.
